Patch Now, Not Later
Summary:  Never before have there been so many potential costly threats to your business information. Protect your business by staying up-to-date with patches for all your software programs.

Introduction
According to the CERT Coordination Center at Carnegie Mellon, 99 percent of all reported security intrusions "result through exploitation of known vulnerabilities or configuration errors." That's why patching should be on your first line of defense against security threats. However, before you automate the patching function available on your software, make sure you are up to speed on the "whats, hows, and whys" of patching.

'A fix'
A patch is a small piece of code that remedies specific problems in a file or application. The patch update is applied as a replacement, complement, or a fix to existing programming. The availability of patches removes the need to download and re-install the entire file or application.

Securing Your Smartphone or PDA
Summary:  Don't overlook the security needs of these small devices. Here are some key security measures to take to protect your smartphone or PDA.

Smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) have become important business tools in recent years, and that trend appears to be continuing. According to Gartner Inc, worldwide PDA shipments in the first quarter of 2006 increased 6.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2005. While use of these handheld devices is becoming more widespread, prices have remained steady, with the average price per device dropping 2.7 percent compared to the same time last year.

For purposes of clarification, Gartner defines a PDA as a data-centric handheld computer weighing less than one pound that is primarily designed for use with both hands. Smartphones offer all the attributes of a PDA, except that smartphones are voice-centric and are designed for primarily one-handed operation. Those differences aside, both devices offer the freedom of mobility to continue business operations outside the physical office walls, enabling anywhere/anytime communication via the phone, email, or Internet using a wireless connection.

Panurgy releases a real-time data backup
and recovery solution, for local and offsite protection.
Most IT Managers and Business Owners agree that tape backups are not reliable. The fixed-scheduled antiquated tape systems are subject to human error, cumbersome to manage and are unreliable. An organizations data is a business’s most important asset and losing it could mean hours, days or more of downtime.
Statistics show:
>Over 30% of IT costs are associated with backup
>20% of nightly tape-based backup jobs fail
>40% of dedicated, full-time IT Managers can not recover data from their tape backups

The reality is that up until now, tape backup systems, although far from perfect, were the only viable data protection product. But that has changed.  Panurgy Total Data Protection (PTDP) provides real-time, hassle-free, local backup, as well as hands-free offsite protection for servers, laptops and PCs. PTDP solution provides complete administration and management saving valuable time. Our IT experts can allow data to be recovered from any point in time—minutes, hours, days or more, as well as, recover deleted files. Backup and recovery policies are set at the network or user level for quick and easy recovery.

Features and Benefits:

  • Local continuous real-time data backup replicates data in real-time for servers, laptops and PCs, so that data can be recovered from any previous point in time. Even open files are protected.

  • Local and offsite backup ensure that critical data marked for offsite protection is sent to a secure data center. Offsite backup is non-evasive during working hours.

  • Instant data recovery and file versions enable the retrieval of every version of the file, not just the latest version.

  • Seamless support for databases and applications provided without the need to integrate third-party software modules.

  • Bare Metal recovery creates an exact image of an entire server or workstation including operating system files, programs, databases and settings. An entire system can be recovered in minutes.

  • Local archiving allows storing snapshots of data for extended periods of time. This feature is industry and government compliant and includes the ability to explore archives and restore individual files.

Customers using Panurgy Total Data Protection are realizing immediate benefits, saving time and money while increasing productivity and decreasing downtime. To learn more contact Panurgy at 1-877-Panurgy (1-877-726-8749) or visit us at http://www.panurgy.com/.

Gerry Gerber

Panurgy would like to welcome the newest member to our team – Gerry Gerber. Gerry has joined Panurgy as a Senior Account Representative. Gerry has been with Panurgy a little more then a month and already is becoming familiar with the many services we offer. His background is in the telecommunication business, so jumping right in to inform our clients about our Verizon services, Avaya systems and solutions has been a natural fit for Gerry.

A typical day for Gerry at Panurgy has been to arrive around 8:15, jump right on the phone, promoting Panurgy services to our prospects, and he does not stop until he finds someone who is in need of our services. Gerry says of his busy work day, "I don't actually stop when I find an opportunity – I just take a 2 minute break and then start looking for the next opportunity!"

Even though Gerry has not been with Panurgy for long, he already has had some great customer experiences. "I received an unsolicited e-mail last week from a potential customer I had called a couple of days earlier. Thanking me for my excellent presentation and that they would be discussing our services and try to find some time to schedule a meeting soon." That is very rewarding.

When not working, Gerry spends time with his 17 year old son, Jesse. Gerry enjoys watching Jesse's hockey games, where he is on the Varsity team. Gerry has always loved music and has a modest home recording studio in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. Gerry is also an amateur student of Stock Market Technical Analysis.

Best of Luck to you Gerry!
