What
Should Be Secured?
I recently attended
an IT security conference in Chicago and the keynote speaker's
address reminded me that IT people and business owners often
have different views on what are your company's assets and
what constitutes adequate security. Dave Stelzl, author of The
House & the Cloud, simplified the security model for
business by comparing a business's security to a home. We
“Protect” our home with doors, windows, locks, and fences.
However, we all know that these security measures do little to
stop a determined or skilled burglar. The next ingredient is
the ability to “Detect” a security breach. In a home we put in
alarm systems, motion detectors, subscribe to monitoring
services and support neighborhood crime watch groups. Finally,
the most important provision of the security model is the
“Response.” We have a dog that will bite the thief, some
people will have a gun ready for intruders, others rely on the
police to respond and others purchase insurance to replace
lost items and repair any damage.
Using the house as
your business scenario you must ask three
questions.
1. What are you
trying to protect?
2. What are the relevant threats you
face?
3. How comfortable are you with your organizations
ability to detect and to respond to a security situation?

| Are You
Prepared?

Are you prepared in
the event of a disaster or even just an unplanned disruption
to your businesses network infrastructure? Most businesses do
not have a disaster recovery plan in place, but the reality is
a disaster could be as simple as losing an important file and
not having a current backup to recover it from. Planning for
any type of disaster makes good business sense.
Panurgy has
combined real-time data backup with a server ready recovery
solution to offer a complete disaster solution, at a price
that makes it a no-brainer for any size business.
Real-Time
Backup
Imagine not relying on antiquated tape systems,
or being subject to human error when it comes to guaranteeing
a successful daily backup. Would it not be ideal to have your
data backed up, as it was being created? Our Total Data
Protection service provides 24 X 7 real-time, hassle-free,
local backup, as well as hands-free offsite protection for
servers, laptops and PCs. Data can now be recovered from any
point in time—from minutes ago, hours ago, days ago or more.
Even deleted files can be recovered.
Off-site
Archiving
No more tapes to switch or store. With our
Off-site Archiving service, backups and critical data are
protected offsite. Data is transmitted securely and stored
encrypted at a secure data center.
Server Ready
Recovery
In the event of a disaster, you need not only
your data to be restored but a server(s) to restore it too!
Panurgy’s Server Ready Recovery Solution provides dedicated
standby back-office server infrastructure, at-the-ready to be
brought online within hours of an emergency. The clients
replicated server infrastructure is located at our Hardened
Data Center, pre-configured to the clients requirements.

Seeing Double -
Practical Productivity
By Jane Cage,
HTS COO
Do you have the luxury of doing only one task at a
time? If you’re like me, I would guess the answer is probably
“No”. I find myself answering email, working on a spreadsheet,
looking at an accounting issue and searching for info on the
internet all at the same time. It’s just become part of the
way that we all work. Most computer users, however, are forced
into single-tasking because of the way they see their work –
on a single monitor. Windows XP and VISTA provide desktop
users with the ability to “spread” their desktop across
multiple monitors. Having two monitors has changed and
improved the way I work.

Microsoft Office
OneNote 2007
Many of us
carry a notebook or notepad around to take notes for business,
school, or personal projects. But can you easily find — and decipher
— the info you need? Is it convenient to share your notes with
others? Take control with Microsoft Office OneNote 2007, the
easy-to-use note-taking and information-management program where you
can capture ideas and information in electronic form. Insert files
or Web content in full-color, searchable format or as icons that you
can click to access. Watch this demo to see how simple it is to
gather, format, organize, and share information. And then say
goodbye to your notepad!
